Abstract

Precision agriculture has emerged as a fundamental paradigm for addressing the escalating global demand for food production while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact and resource consumption. At the core of this paradigm lies the extensive deployment of heterogeneous sensor networks designed to monitor soil parameters, microclimate conditions, and crop health metrics. However, the harsh and dynamic nature of agricultural environments inevitably leads to sensor degradation, signal drift, and an overall reduction in data fidelity over time. This paper presents a comprehensive protocol evaluation of various sensor calibration routines and their direct impact on data fidelity within precision agriculture fields. By systematically analyzing both static and dynamic calibration methodologies, this research elucidates the mechanisms through which environmental stressors compromise sensor accuracy. The study evaluates electrochemical sensors for nutrient tracking and dielectric sensors for soil moisture monitoring, deployed across diverse soil typologies. Through rigorous field testing and statistical validation, the evaluation demonstrates that adaptive, in-situ calibration protocols significantly outperform traditional, periodic factory calibrations in maintaining long-term data integrity. The findings underscore the critical necessity of standardized calibration frameworks to ensure the reliability of decision support systems in modern agriculture, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and economically viable farming practices.
